STK14C88-3 256 Kbit 32K x 8 AutoStore nvSRAM Functional Description • 35 ns and 45 ns Access Times The Cypress STK14C88-3 is a 256 Kb fast static RAM with • Automatic Nonvolatile STORE on power loss a nonvolatile element in each memory cell. The embedded nonvolatile elements incorporate QuantumTrap technology • Nonvolatile STORE under Hardware or Software control • Automatic RECALL to SRAM on power up producing the world’s most reliable nonvolatile memory. The SRAM provides unlimited read and write cycles, while independent, nonvolatile data resides in the highly reliable • Unlimited Read/Write endurance • Unlimited RECALL Cycles • 1,000,000 STORE Cycles • 100 year Data Retention • Single 3.3V+0.3V Power Supply • Commercial and Industrial Temperatures QuantumTrap cell. Data transfers from the SRAM to the nonvolatile elements the STORE operation takes place s automatically at power down. On power up, data is restored to the SRAM the RECALL operation from the nonvolatile n memory. Both the STORE and RECALL operations are also Desig available under software control. • 32-pin 300mil SOIC and 32-pin 600 mil PDIP packages w • RoHS compliance ROW DECODER Ne Logic Block Diagram for A5 e A9 d A11 n A13 e A14 Quantum Trap 512 X 512 STORE STATIC RAM ARRAY 512 X 512 RECALL m DQ0 m DQ1 o DQ2 c DQ3 e DQ4 R DQ6 NotDQ7 INPUT BUFFERS COLUMN I/O COLUMN DEC A0 A1 A2 A3 A4 A10 VCAP POWER CONTROL STORE/ RECALL CONTROL SOFTWARE DETECT - A13 A0 CE WE • San Jose, CA 95134-1709 • 408-943-2600 [+] Feedback STK14C88-3 Contents 1 Data Retention and Endurance 9 Functional 1 Capacitance 9 Part Numbering 15 Ordering 15 Package 16 Document History Page 17 Sales, Solutions and Legal Information 17 Worldwide Sales and Design Support.......................... 17 Products 17 Page 2 of 17 [+] Feedback Pin Configurations Figure Pin Diagram - 32-Pin SOIC/32-Pin PDIP STK14C88-3 Designs for New Table Pin Definitions - 32-Pin SOIC/32-Pin PDIP ed Pin Name Alt I/O Type d en DQ0-DQ7 Input Input or Output Address Inputs. Used to select one of the 32,768 bytes of the nvSRAM. Bidirectional Data I/O lines. Used as input or output lines depending on operation. Input Write Enable Input, Active LOW. When the chip is enabled and WE is LOW, data on the I/O pins is written to the specific address location. om CE Input Chip Enable Input, Active LOW. When LOW, selects the chip. When HIGH, deselects the chip. ec OE Input Output Enable, Active LOW. The active LOW OE input enables the data output buffers during read cycles. Deasserting OE HIGH causes the I/O pins to tristate. R VSS t VCC No HSB Ground for the Device. The device is connected to ground of the system. Power Supply Power Supply Inputs to the Device. Input or Hardware Store Busy HSB . When LOW, this output indicates a Hardware Store is in Output progress. When pulled low external to the chip, it initiates a nonvolatile STORE operation. A weak internal pull up resistor keeps this pin high if not connected connection optional . VCAP Power Supply AutoStore Capacitor. Supplies power to nvSRAM during power loss to store data from SRAM to nonvolatile elements. Page 3 of 17 [+] Feedback STK14C88-3 Device Operation Figure 2 shows the proper connection of the storage capacitor The STK14C88-3 nvSRAM is made up of two functional VCAP for automatic store operation. A charge storage capacitor having a capacity of between 68 uF and 220 uF components paired in the same physical cell. These are an +20% rated at 4.7V should be provided. SRAM memory cell and a nonvolatile QuantumTrap cell. The SRAM memory cell operates as a standard fast static RAM. Figure AutoStore Mode Data in the SRAM is transferred to the nonvolatile cell the STORE operation or from the nonvolatile cell to SRAM the RECALL operation .
