The true measure of a fiber optic connector’s performance is in the terminated state. For this reason, Molex has expended a great deal of engineering talent and resources developing the termination processes and tooling required to terminate fiber optic connectors. The result of this effort is a unique set of tools and procedures for quick, reliable and consistent terminations.

The Molex termination tool kit provides all the tools necessary to terminate a variety of industry standard fiber optic connectors. Packaged in a durable carrying case, the kit contains the necessary polishing pads, stripping and crimping tools and enough consumables to terminate approximately 50 connectors. Additionally, the kit contains a unique curing oven, cleave tool and polishing fixture for repeatable results with minimal training.

Curing Oven

The Molex curing oven is designed to maximize operator output by eliminating the need for batch curing. It has either 6 simplex connectors or 2 duplex connectors independently controlled cavities and a curing cycle of 5 minutes. A connector placed in a cavity activates a timer in that cavity which then signals the completion of a curing cycle by lighting a red LED and sounding a buzzer.

Cleave Tool

The Molex cleave tool is designed to repeatedly and accurately cleave the fiber at a controlled length just above the surface of the ferrule. This eliminates the need for a bead of epoxy and extensive operator training. The result is a substantial reduction in polishing time and a significant improvement in production yield.

Polishing Fixture Consistent and repeatable PC physical contact terminations are easily achieved with the constant pressure Molex polishing tool. The fixture incorporates a spring loaded nest that provides uniform downward pressure on the ferrule tip. With this feature, operator variability is virtually eliminated.
